Payment Limits
Why Payment Limits Exist

When you pay into Trust Toucan’s secure Stripe account, you’ll use a bank transfer (Faster Payments) from your own online banking. This is one of the safest and fastest ways to send money - but most UK banks apply limits on how much you can send in a single payment or within a day.
These limits exist to help protect customers from fraud and mistakes. Since our mission is to promote secure, scam-free transactions, we would never encourage trying to bypass these safeguards. However, it’s important to note that payment limits are not fixed — they often depend on your specific bank, your account type, and your personal security settings.
You can usually check your exact limit within your banking app or by calling your bank or local branch.

Typical Bank Limits (Personal Accounts)
Below are some examples of what UK banks typically allow through online or mobile banking for personal accounts (as of publication). Your actual limit may differ, so always check directly with your bank:

-
NatWest – Up to £20,000 per day via app or online. You can request a one-off higher payment (with biometric security), but there are rules: max 2 in 7 days, 4 in 28 days.

HSBC – Daily limit depends on your account, but typically up to £25,000 for personal payments. For companies, limits can be up to £50,000. You can adjust your daily limit in the HSBC app.

How do I pay an amount over my limit?
We know bank limits can be frustrating, but Trust Toucan is designed to give you flexibility.
-
Flexibility with payments – Each Trust Toucan transaction allows at least 4 days before automatic cancellation, giving you time to complete your payment. If your bank’s daily limit is lower than the full amount, you can simply make smaller transfers over multiple days until your balance is met. If the transaction isn’t completed within that time, it’s cancelled automatically and any money already sent is refunded.

-
Larger payments via your bank – Most banks allow you to exceed your usual limit by verifying your identity often by visiting a branch, calling your bank, or even completing additional security checks within your app. In-branch transfers can typically go far beyond standard Faster Payment limits once ID is confirmed. Always ask your bank whether they can approve the payment as a larger Faster Payment. Many banks can do this instantly after verifying you. Please note currently Trust Toucan DOES NOT accept CHAPS payments - GBP Bank Transfers (faster payments) only.

-
Check with your bank first – Payment limits can vary not just by bank, but by account type, security settings, or even whether the payee is new.
-
Plan ahead – Large transfers may take a little extra time if you need to split them up, raise your limit, or go via branch.
-
No money lost – If a payment fails because of a bank limit, the money never leaves your account. You’ll only see confirmation in Trust Toucan once the funds are received safely.
